Learn about this beautiful and graceful setting for a cabochon gemstone.
This is one of the oldest style of settings, often seen in ancient jewelry. The gemstone is simply surrounding with a metal rim, that is pushed over the edge of the gemstone to secure it creating an elegant setting. It is protective and durable, and stylistically fits both modern and antique design in appearance.
We will look at the options of bezel wire (setting with a burnisher) and bezel fabrication (for hammer setting) and compare. We will also explore partial vs full bezel, as well as ways to enhance our setting with gallery wires, cutouts, and texture / polishing.
You may bring your own cabochon to this workshop (6 and up on the Moh’s scale, please) or purchase one from the tutor’s collection.
Materials will be provided.
